Yamaha Motors has introduced its new bike into the Indian market known as Yamaha YZF–R15 with awesome features. The new bike has borrowed many features from its previous bike Yamaha YZF–R1 and it undergone some cosmetic changes over it. The Yamaha YZF–R15 satisfy the needs of the bike enthusiasts. Overall, the new YZF–R15 is an ideal bike for style, performance and power lovers in bike. The cost of the new bike is little high with a price range of Rs.1,09,000 but packed with all exciting features. But the middle class people are not able to purchase the bike and the new bike would be a tough competitor to its similar other bikes.

Yamaha YZF–R15 Dimensions

The Yamaha YZF–R15 has an excellent exterior dimensions in terms of length, width and height. The length and width of the bike is measured as 1970 mm and 670 mm where as the height of the bike is 1070 mm. The total kerb weight of the Yamaha YZF-R15 is nearly 136 kg and the wheelbase of the bike is about 1345 mm. It provides the minimum ground clearance of about 160 mm which is quite good.

Design and Style

The Yamaha YZF–R15 is one of the sportive and stylish bike packed with lot of exciting and thrilling features. The front face of the bike looks very pretty with the headlights giving a crystal clear vision to the riders while riding at night. It has a decent instrument panel holding instruments and a double horn with larger volume and sound quality is adopted. The YZF–R15 comes with a delta frame chassis giving comfort while riding and it is very easy to handle. The engine of the bike is really powerful ensuring better power and torque. It is a new model bike designed under the concept of a “Graded Up R15”. The bike is fitted with a split seat giving better feeling of seat grip in sporty riding. It has a seat height of 800 mm allowing the rider to maintain a more relaxed riding posture and there is a lot of storage space under the rear seat for placing things like tools and documents. The Yamaha YZF–R15 possess a new tail cowl in order to create a dynamic leaping appearance towards the rear providing a sense of cadence to the body lines. The rear part of the bike looks really glamorous with its powerful LED Tail lights. The long-life LED lamps gives an elegant rear appearance to the vehicle. The rear mud guard and saree guard are positioned in a right place with the rear fender and they are attached to the swing arm. The bike consists of a wider radial tyres which helps in a high level of rigidity reducing excessive flexing of tread and increases grip.

Yamaha YZF-R15 Engine Details

The Yamaha YZF–R15 is powered by a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve engine which offers the displacement very close to 149.8 cc. The engine has a single cylinder arrangement delivering the net power of 17 PS @ 8500 RPM in combination with the net torque of 15 NM @ 7500 RPM. The bore and stroke of the bike is measured as 57 mm and 58.7 mm along with the compression ratio of 10.4:1. It has only electric start option and the company has omitted the kick start option. The engine is mated with a proficient six speed transmission type and wet multiple disc type clutch assures smooth gear shifts and ride.

Yamaha YZF–R15 Acceleration

The Yamaha YZF–R15 is expected to provide better acceleration and pick up with the Yamaha’s sophisticated technologies. The bike can accelerate from 0-60 kmph in just 3.0 seconds where as it can reach from 0-100 kmph in just a short span of 9.0 seconds. The maximum speed offered by the Yamaha YZF–R15 is found to be approximately 145 kmph.

Yamaha YZF–R15 Mileage

The Yamaha YZF–R15 is considered to be one of the fuel efficient engine which generates a healthy mileage of about 35-40 kmpl. The fuel tank capacity of the bike is around 12 litres which is quite good. The company claims that the new bike would generate 35 kmpl in city traffic roads and 40 kmpl on highways.

Brakes and Suspension System

The Yamaha YZF-R15 comes with sound and dynamic braking facilities. The new bike has been designed with a delta box frame type. The front brake of the YZF-R15 is of hydraulic type and the rear brake is of single disc type to achieve good balance and good braking power. On the other hand, the front suspension is of telescopic type while the rear suspension is of linked monocross type. The usage of monocross suspension delivers a comfortable ride, cushioning performance, agile handling, turnability and many more. The bike is fitted with a wide rear tire which provides a high level of rigidity by minimizing excessive flexing of the tread and increasing grip. In addition, it reduces the rolling resistance which improves fuel economy. The Yamaha YZF-R15 is well incorporated with a newly designed cast 5-spoke wheels giving more strength balance and creating sense of lightness simultaneously. For better safety, it has a headlight of low beam 12V/35W X1 and hi beam 12V/35W X2 gives a crystal clear vision to the rider while riding at night time. Along with that, the taillight and turn signal lamps are also one of the safety feature of the bike. All these features altogether gives well protection to both rider and pillion.
