Toyota, one of the world’s leading car manufacturer has introduced its new compact sedan named Etios in India at an attractive price. The Etios has been designed with eye-catchy interiors and exteriors. The new sedan is available in both petrol and diesel variants and it ensures better performance, mileage and fuel economy.

Engine

The Toyota Etios has two type of engine options which offers good performance. The etios is housed with a 2NR-FE, 1.5L, 4 cylinder 16V, DOHC petrol engine with a displacement of 1496cc. The petrol engine churns out the maximum power of 90 PS @ 5600 RPM and torque of 132 NM @ 3000 RPM. Similarly, the diesel engine of the etios is powered by a 8V, SOHC engine with a displacement of 1364cc delivering maximum power of 68 PS @ 3800 RPM and peak torque of 170 NM @ 1800-2400 RPM respectively. The company has put lot of work in order to make the powerful engine along with latest technology upgradation which assures less power loss. The engine of the car is packed with standard pistons with molybdenum coating and Electronic Fuel Injection system.

Mileage

The Etios gives a healthy mileage on both petrol and engine variants. Even the car is car is fitted with lightweight materials it delivers improved anti-knocking performance and the electronic throttle control offers high fuel efficiency. The petrol version of the car generates the healthy mileage of 12 kmpl in city roads and 17.6 kmpl on highways. On the other hand, the diesel variant generates the mileage of 20 kmpl in urban roads and 23 kmpl on highway roads.

Acceleration and Fuel Economy

The acceleration of the car is too good while compared to other cars. Toyota cars are always known for their better power, performance and reliability. The engines are very refined which delivers excellent power and torque. The petrol version of the car can attain 0-100 kmph in just 12.5 seconds with the possibility of maximum speed 178 kmph. Likewise, the diesel variant of the car can cross 0-100 kmph in just 19 seconds.

Design and Engineering

Interiors

The company has performed various changes in the interiors which are very impressive. The dashboard of the car is of conventional type with instrument panel in the centre and AC vents on both ends in which the rear passengers can easily read the information. In the middle of the console, a touch screen audio system is integrated with operating switches and some additional steering mounted audio controls are also provided for the convenience of the driver. The four seating car consists of three spoke multifunction steering wheel and it is not available for the base model of the etios. The interior comes in dual tone and it has seatbelts for all passengers. The seats are very large and comfortable with sufficient legroom, headroom, backrest. The adjustable head rest is very helpful and the quality is also very nice. It offers more storage spaces at door pockets and glove box which is really very useful. All the variants comes with boot compartment. The Toyota Etios features includes internally adjustable ORVM, luggage room lamp, fabric insert door trim, fabric upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel, seven bottle holders etc. Apart from this, it has front door pockets, rear door pockets, day and night inside rear view mirror, driver side sunvisor, chrome accented air vents, remote fuel lid opener and remote tailgate opener. The flooring of the car is very flat assuring much comfort and the car comprises air conditioner with heater and clean air filter, power windows, electric power steering, central locking, cooled glove box, front cabin lights, front power outlet, rear defogger, tilt steering, tachometer, digital tripmeter, audio controls on steering wheel with USB and Aux-in Ready Audio etc.

Exteriors

The exteriors of the sedan is really excellent and awesome with the sharp and compact front face. The upper and lower grille, headlamps altogether gives the appearance of the human being face. The upper grille of the car is of chrome finish type and the lower grille is available in black with pearl white fog lamps at both end of the lower grille. The rain wipers are placed at the front and rear face and rear side view mirrors are in body color type along with door handles, rear cowl and bumper. The car sports a triangular shape taillight cluster with brake, turn and reverse indicators. The exhaust pipes in both petrol and diesel variants are not clearly visible. This compact car has B Pillar Black-Out, Intermittent Wiper, Side Skirt etc. These features are not available in all the variants. The Toyota Etios G and J features a tire size of 175 / 65 R14 and the V and VX version has a tyre size is 185 / 60 R15 with the high ground clearance of about 170 mm. Likewise, the Toyota Etios Diesel VD and Toyota Etios Diesel VXD have a tyre size of 185/60 R 15. The external measurements includes 4265 mm length, 1695 mm width and 1510 mm height and 2550 mm wheelbase. The fuel tank of the car is believed to be 45 litres and minimum turning radius of 4.9 m.

Braking, Handling and Safety Features

The Toyota Etios offers decent and well balanced braking and handling facilities. The car has a ventilated disc brakes in front and rear drum brakes which helps in any emergency braking. The wheelbase of the car is very long for its better stability on the road. The front and rear suspension of the car is of non-independent shock abosorbers for smooth riding experience. While considering about the safety, the car comes with advanced safety features such as Anti Lock Braking System with Electronic Brake Distribution, airbags, immobilizer, keyless entry, driver seat belt warning and door ajar warning etc. All these features protects well in case of heavy jerk, collision etc. Overall, the Toyota Etios is a safest car.
