Review on Tata Zest
Tata in a zeal to achieve top position in selling the car, takes a considerable amount of time in releasing all new product in the name of Zest in the midway-4-sedan segment. With all new stunning Zest, that comes loaded with state-of-art features, you can power up through the weeks and can be at ease through the weekends.
EXTERIOR STYLING:
With all its inspiring cutting edge and futuristic styling crafted with precision gives the sedan a bold look. Projector headlamps with LED light guide rings act as position lamps and adds to the style quotient. Introduction of LED Daytime Running Lights makes the car to stand out in the crowd. A fresh and energetic appeal is acquired by the signature design. Though the grille tends to shower the unique and expressive humanity line into the dynamic headlamp, both the grille and headlamp remind us that of the Indigo-Manza.
Despite the rear end looks little bit stumpy,it is chiseled with a rounded edge that can be ever seen in any other cars of same kind. Moreover the rear contours of the Zest with a wrap around look gets accentuated by the eye-catchy LED-tail lamps, that emits a unique, unbroken effect.Dissipation of heat on road on driving is encouraged by the sturdy yet light weight 15” alloy wheels, also comes forward to provide a well balancing effect.Materials are soft to touch as like that of Polo.
INTERIOR DESIGN:
The spacious cabin of Zest is thoughtfully crafted for providing novices a feel of comfortness. From every stitch of the seat to a feature loaded dual-tone dashboard and advanced steering controls, the Zest from Tata Motors is built to spell luxury.Cool finds a new meaning in the fully automatic AC with controls on the touchscreen, however the response is found to be a little bit slow with AC controls. Also the knob and button felt a shade down on quality and fit-and-finish.Overall, though the interior has seen a sea of change for the better especially in terms of comfortness and sophistication, there are still a handful of areas where Tata could do better in terms of quality of materials used.
INSTRUMENTATION CONSOLE:
Regarding instrumentation, Tata has worked with Harman Kardon to create a unique offering that'll be a first in the segment. This touch-sensitive, voice-controlled infotainment system is going to be the X-factor in sales talk at dealerships in the future and is likely to be a bit of spice for added flavour at present .Let’s probe into its intrinsic features in detail. This new age console houses a state-of-the-art HARMANTM touchscreen multimedia system that offers superior connectivity features and unmatched entertainment quality. The next-gen Harman infotainment system has been customized to accommodate the customer’s every need which ensures one stay connected, on-the-go. The exclusively designed system is loaded with best-in-class features like touchscreen control for music, temperature, and voice controlled actions. One can experience the advanced voice command recognition to control media, radio and climate control on the move. The SMS notifications and read- outs feature makes sure you never miss a thing.Match the music to your pace with the speed sensitive auto volume adjust feature, thus eliminating ambient noise.
ENGINE SPECS&PERFORMANCE:
Performance criteria includes the three hydraulic actuators, that are controlled by hydraulic electro valves, make the gearbox work exactly like a driver would operate a manual transmission;,thus the driver can now depend completely on the AMT to shift all the time, or shift sequentially when in the manual mode. With F-Tronic (AMT) Automated Manual Transmission, one can enjoy finger-touch, feather-light, clutch-free drive in India’s first-in-segment diesel sedan.
If you're in regular automatic mode and drive with a relatively light footed approach, the gearbox shifts at around 2000 revs which is a bit annoying. there's this drag that you have to suffer before the boost really kicks in and picks the momentum up.Though the sound produced by the diesel engine doesn't intrude into the cabin, it does makes a lot of noise.
However the petrol engine is not that bad. the torque is said to be produced between 1,750-3,000rpm. It's not as bad as the diesel, but this 1.2, too, suffers from initial turbo-lag till about 2,000rpm, beyond which, it pulls cleanly. The mid-range is reasonably good, and between 3,000-4,500rpm is where you'd like to be. Here only comes with 3 driving options-City, Economy and Sports. The built in multi-drive mode feature lets you switch between three different driving modes that allow you to choose between an intelligent burst of power, maximum fuel efficiency and a perfect balance of both, at will.
RIDING &HANDLING:
A 3-spoke steering wheel that sports out smart controls will be an ideal fit for any driver thus providing superior commands with an ergonomic grip. The new Zest promises to give you effortless and memorable driving experience with e-Pass. The dual-path independent front suspension with anti-roll bar, designed in collaboration with the Tata Motors European technical centre, gives you international performance on Indian roads. Further ,to make your ride enjoyable ,and put your mind at ease ,Zest comes loaded with an array of advanced safety features. Parking and reversing the car is now easier and safer with the accurate and sensitive ultrasonic rear park sensors. The touch screen display gives a precise visual of the rear area, assisting the driver in reversing the car.
Speed sensing auto door locks promises the safety of every passenger, that will automatically locks all the door once the car picks up speed. The dual SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) air bags enhance the safety of the driver and co-driver in the event of a frontal collision. The new advanced ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic brake-force distribution) and CSC (Corner stability Control) ensures absolute safety in case of panic hard braking by sensing the wheel speed and prevents wheel lock-up during braking, thus maintaining directional control.
VERDICT:
The new Zest that comes with bold-sculptured design, stylish dual-tone exteriors, best in-class interior space , exclusive design 5" touch screen infotainment by Harman, Revotron 1.2T MPFi turbocharged petrol engine with first-in-segment multi-drive mode reflects that a lot of engineering tasks has been done on the car.The question is whether Tata would maintain its integrity in the near future?
Tata has won many hearts of the Indians with its stylish features and awesome design. I think it would be the best car in its segment compared to its rivals like Dzire, Amaze. But the service quality of the Tata Motors is really bad. It is better to go for any other brand except Tata for its service. Other than that, everything is ok with Tata Zest.
I think Tata Zest comes with an innovative design from the Tata Motors which gives a trendy look. The head lamps and grille looks good along with the fancy alloy wheels. The interiors are really impressive compared to the Xcent car which gets dual color tone. Going to engine performance, I am very shocked with AMT gearbox for this price. The ride quality and handling is too too good. Tata would attract everybody for its features and good engines both in petrol and diesel.
I have been a car owner since last fifteen years , owned maruti , ford, Honda, Toyota before finally purchasing Indica, a Tata car. I was pleasantly impressed with quality and vfm which Tata offered me with Indica, since then I purchased three Tata cars nano and zest finally. I have become brand loyal to Tata car as they gave me least amount of problems.
My experience with Zest Revetron XT: I bought zest in November 2014 and have driven about 11000 kms since then. I was very happy with zest right from beginning with features it offered , safety and vfm. My only issue with car was little low on mileage it offered initially. I got the car checked for mileage at Concorde motors , Mumbai . It was just few months before my second service was due. Since then my mileage has continuously been going up. I drove from Mumbai to Ankaleshwar on 8 th February 2016, a distance of 350 km , I was pleasantly surprised with high mileage I got , point to point I got 19.2 kms / ltr . This included about 50 kms city driving in Mumbai and vapi.
After my halt at Vapi , I reset average meter A to zero for re-checking . I was astonished with high mileage a 1100 kilos heavy zest Revetron petrol xt gave me average of 22.5 to 24. Entire distance of 160 kms , it never dropped below 22. To be honest I would have been happy with 16 km average but 22 plus mileage for petrol car ,Its a very very pleasant surprise. I do not have patience to drive in eco mode so it was city mode all throughout.
The Revetron engine is a delightful machine, as my car opens a bit more with more usage, I hope to better the mileage , should I expect 25 ?
I am a very cautious driver and entire stretch maintained speed of around 80 kms an hour. With help of modern features available in the car like instfe meter, average meter it assisted me in correcting my driving.
Zest and Revetron simply rock , thanks Tata for giving me a complete family car for my requirements.
Enclosed : Few Photographs I clicked of Mileage. Please excuse poor quality of photographs, but they are visible.
I have purchased Tata Zest just recently and its looks are very good and we would not feel like we are sitting inside a Tata vehicle. It is well proved engine but it needs to improve its fuel efficiency. The ride quality and handling of the vehicle is superb and I have shifted from Volkswagen to Tata. Overall it is good compared to Hyundai, Maruti and Ford.
