Maruti S-Cross Review

The highly expected Maruti Suzuki’s S-Cross finally enters into the Indian automobile market in two different diesel engine options. The new S-Cross comes with a competitive price range of Rs.8.3 – Rs.13.7 lac respectively. One of the important feature of S-Cross is that it gets the option of AWD system which means All Wheel Drive system and it is also known as AllGrip. It would fight against its similar other successful models such as Ford Ecosport and Renault Duster.

Style and Engineering

Exterior Features

The exterior appearance of the Maruti S-Cross gives a stunning appearance to the buyers and it comes with a muscular frame along with sloping roof which emphazies its superior aerodynamics. The front fascia of the vehicle is decorated with a windshield with a pair of rain sensing wipers. It boasts a sleek bonnet and bold radiator grille with two horizontally positioned chrome plated slats. Surrounding this, a decent headlight cluster with HID projector lamps are provided for better visibility. Further, it is fitted with turn indicators and LED position lamps. The front bumper comes with a silver garnished skid plate, air intake section and a couple of round shaped fog lamps. When it is talking about the side profile, the car looks simply striking with its black colored B-pillars, roof rails and body colored door handles. The roof rails of the car is garnished in either black or silver based on the variants. The wheels of Zeta and Alpha comes with a set of 16 inch alloy wheels where as the remaining trims have steel wheels of same size 205/60 R16 of tubeless radial tyres. Interior Features

Maruti proves its excellence in designing the interiors of Maruti S-Cross. It looks very trendy with its black and chrome accents on AC louver knobs, parking brake lever and door handles. The car is provided with cushioned seats wrapped with fabric or leather upholstery depending on the trim. The driver seat of the vehicle is of adjustable type while the rear one is of reclining and split foldable type. It has a bottle holder at the doors where as the rear center armrest has cup holder. Engine Details of Maruti S-Cross

Maruti S-Cross comes in two different diesel engine options in which one of them is 1.6 litre, DDiS 320 motor produces displacement very close to 1598cc. It would churn out the maximum power output of 118bhp at 3750rpm along with maximum torque output of 320Nm at 1750rpm which is paired with a six speed manual transmission gear box and it is integrated with a variable geometry turbocharger.

Similarly, another diesel engine 1.3 litre, DDis 200 mill produces the displacement of 1248cc generates the peak power output of 88.5bhp at 4000rpm along with peak torque output of 200Nm at 1750rpm. This engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission gear box which is quite integrated with a common rail fuel injection system along with an inter cooled turbocharger for better engine performance. Both these power plants are offered with four cylinders and it is developed on the basis of a double overhead camshaft valve configuration and compliant with Bharat Stage IV standard emission norms.

Fuel Efficiency

The engine DDiS 200 motor with a common rail fuel injection system delivers an attractive mileage of around 23.65 kmpl on highways and nearly 18-19 kmpl on city roads. On the other hand, 1.6 litre engine of S-Cross would be able to generate the fuel efficiency of around 22.07 kmpl on highways and about 17 kmpl under city roads.

Acceleration and Pick Up of Maruti S-Cross

Maruti S-Cross gives a decent acceleration and pick up in which the 1248cc engine can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 13-14 seconds with the maximum speed of around 155-160 kmph. At the same time, the 1.6 litre engine offers the top speed of about 180 kmph and it can reach up to 100 kmph in approximately 11.3 seconds.

S-Cross Braking Mechanisms

Braking is not a big problem in Maruti S-Cross and it is well equipped with a reliable braking system. The front wheel of the new car gets a standard ventilated disc brakes and solid disc brakes at the rear. Likewise, the Sigma variant has sturdy drum brakes at the rear wheel which is safe too.

Maruti S-Cross Suspension Mechanism

Maruti S-Cross is well fitted with a proficient Suspension system which makes easy to handle the vehicle even in bad road conditions.
