Mahindra Gusto Review
Mahindra has launched its all new Gusto in two variants namely
Gusto DX and Gusto VX. It is the first scooter that is being offered in the 110 segment from the Indian two-wheeler space. It has been designed in such a manner that it posses many amazing features that can be ever seen in the prior models.Let see what are such features that make Gusto unique in its segment.
Ergonomics:
Gusto gets the
clear lens and the
company logo on both the front and the rear ends. These features prove to be prominent in making the Gusto look unique. The front apron that holds on the pseudo-air vents gives the feeling of looking at the Kinetic Blaze ,however it doesn’t look so good as that of its rear end that gets the best looking.
Faux aluminium panel set to decorate the front part, whilst at the rear end, stop light and reflectors are said to be attached to the huge tail lamps. Thus the pilot lamps and the faux grille add some character to it. Besides , other features include chunk grab rail, telescopic front forks and MRF Nylogrip tyres meaty exhaust with 12-inch tubeless tyres. Regarding the instrument console, it said to comprise of analogue speedometer and fuel gauge with the silver lining. Taking the rider’s safety into account, the auto-lock mechanism has been provided and flip key are being added to it.
Engine and Performance:
In order to keep on the promise of offering over the factors like lightness, fuel-efficiency and affords, This time Mahindra tries out a new technology and decided to implement
MTEC engine technology that comprises of like strong crankshaft and bearings and high inertia magneto with greater energy ignition coil and an efficient series regulator. Though these components seem to be so strong in its name ,in practical they proves out to be stress free. The 109.6cc single cylinder, four-stroke and air-cooled motor will power up the scooter. It will deliver up to the maximum of
8 PS power and 8.5Nm of torque. This engine gets mounted over the tubular frame and will be mated to the
CVT gearbox. This engine tends to be smooth, thus helps the riders to have an
effortless kick start. Also, no vibration is being felt while riding, thus proves to be vibe-free. Further the mileage would be drawn up to 63.5kmpl,though it weighs over
120kg than its rivals.
Riding and Handling:
One can experience the smoothness while riding, as the scooter absorbs broken road patches. In this way,the good job is done of resisting crashing through broken roads. With the good turn-in radius one can easily turn around the sharp corners. Gusto uses
130mm drum brakes at both the front and the rear ends, thus gaining the adequate stopping power, but not the best .With the wheelbase of
1275mm,Gusto proves to be the only scooter with such largest wheelbase in 110cc segment. With the upright seating position, one can have a comfortable ride at the
top speed of 80km/hr. Regarding the suspension system, the front end gets the telescopic hydraulic type while the rear end gets the coil type hydraulic suspension.
With the provision of reverse kick start one can thumb the starter without the use of main stand, that would be greatly appreciated by the ladies. Gusto features out large 12-inch steel wheels with 90 section tubeless MRF Zappers and longest wheelbase in-class that grants the stability. The engineers have imposed an entirely complicated seating system that can be adjusted until it suits your height. You can raise or lower the seat height by a difference of
40mm.This system is found to be very user-friendly.One thing is to be noted that gusto is the first scooter to come with
height adjustable seat.
Further, the rear foot pegs have a small extension of soft rubber to make the persons who sit at the back to have a comfortable seating position. The rear brake gets a locking clasp whilst there are two bag hooks, one under the front seat and one on the front apron.
Variants:
As mentioned earlier Gusto is available in two variants-Gusto DX and Gusto VX.The VX variant gets the features like flip key, follow-me and find-me lamps and upright seating posture. While the base variants retains the LED position lamps, soft foot pegs and reverse kick along with the standard key.Comprising of all such features,
Gusto DX is priced at
Rs 43,000 and
Gusto VX at Rs 47,000.
Verdict
Gusto is the nicest scooter that have been built by Mahindra to date in the aspects of
engine performance and riding quality.Only a little area has been left for criticizing. That itself makes the Mahindra to move one step forward, thus Mahindra pins its hope onto the Gusto for outstanding success. However it faces a little bit competition with its rivals that includes Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, Hero Maestro and Yamaha Alpha.
