Sep 2, 2010 - Hero Honda, the country’s largest motorcycle manufacturer has introduced a new version known as “Super Splendor” with a cost of Rs.45,950 in Ex-Shworoom Delhi. The company had already launched its Super Splendor in 2005 which is powered with “Quantum Core” engine and enhanced features to offer better fuel economy. Anil Dua, Senior Vice-President of Hero Honda Motors revealed that they would launch three more models in the 125cc segment which includes Super Splendor, Glamour and Glamour PGM-FI.Review
The Hero Honda Splendor is a motorcycle accomplished in India by Hero Honda. The Hero Honda bikes are well known for their excellent mileage and low maintenance. The company had launched its upgraded version of the Splendor named as “Splendor Plus” with superb features in 2004. In 2007, it had reshaped the Splendor Plus bike with alterations in body fairings and wheels. The Hero Honda Bikes are designed with the aim of attracting the youths. The Hero Honda Super Splendor is a rider cum executive bike and it looks glossy and impressive with new pattern of strips. This bike possess a dazzling body graphics which enriches the sporty appeal and has stylish broad muffler with heat shield. The Super Splendor sports a newly designed multireflector headlight, transclucent visor. The front cowl of the bike is looking vigorous and it has a tripmeter for measuring distance travelled on a trip, Speedometer and fuel guage. The multiplate wet type clutch is present in the bike. The Honda bikes are developed with the new technique of Quantum Core engine which pumps out best fuel efficiency from Hero Honda family. The engine of Super Splendor Plus works for long hours and it is suitable for long riders. A wide utility box is also present in the Super Splendor bike and a peephole to check the engine oil level. The engine of the bike is mounted with ‘Hero Honda’ name and the company name stickers are fitted at the fuel tank and front cowl. In the side panels, the “Hero Honda Super Splendor ” emblem is fixed which looks very bold and gorgeous. For handy use, a pass light flasher, turn indicator switch, high and low beam switch are fixed at right position on handlebars. The Super Splendor is designed with comfortable seat arrangement which makes riding a pleasure for both rider and the pillion. It boasts an alloy type wheel and chrome finished silencer which glances awesome in a commuter bike. This bike incorporates a pass switch and push cancel indicator switch for enhancing the safety.
Engine
The variants of Hero Honda Splendor is strengthened with Air Cooled, 4 Stroke, Single Cylinder OHC engine with the displacement of 97.2 cc except the Super Splendor. The Super Splendor has a displacement of 124.7cc. The Hero Honda Splendor NXG and Pro delivers the maximum power of 5.74Kw @ 7500 rpm and torque of 8.04Nm @ 4500 rpm. The Hero Honda Splendor Plus generates the top speed of 5.5Kw @ 8000 rpm and torque is 7.95Nm @ 5000 rpm while the Super Splendor gives out a peak speed of 6.72Kw @ 7000 rpm and torque of 10.35 Nm @ 4000 rpm.
Fuel Economy
The Hero Honda bikes delivers a good mileage in both city and on highways. It has excellent fuel efficiency and low maintenance. The Splendor NXG supports a fuel tank capacity of 9.5 litres and the Super Splendor has 13 litres. Likewise, the fuel tank capacity of the Splendor Pro and Plus is 11 litres. The kerb weight is 109 kg for all the three variants of Hero Honda except the Super Splendor while it has 121 kg of kerb weight.
Average Mileage
The Hero Honda Splendor and Splendor Plus delivers a mileage of about 81 Kmpl while the Hero Honda Splendor Nxg discharges a mileage nearly 79 Kmpl. The last variant of the Hero Honda (Super Splendor) generates a mileage of 83 Kmpl.
Variants
Splendor Plus - Another variant named Splendor Plus has the dimension of 1970mm x 720mm x 1040mm in terms of its length, width and height respectively. The bike possess a spoke wheel and its wheelbase is measured as 1230mm.
Super Splendor - The Super Splendor is the higher end variant of Hero Honda which acquires an Advanced Microprocessor Ignition (AMI) System. The dimension of this bike is termed as 1995mm x 735mm X 1095mm. The Super Splendor offers wonderful features while compared to other variants of Hero Honda.
Splendor NXG - The NXG is powered with the Superb new APDV engine and Power start. The Splendor NXG has 4 speed constant mesh geatbox and DC Digital CDI Ignition. The Bore of this bike is 50mm while the stroke is 49.5mm respectively.
Splendor Pro - The Splendor Pro is one of the variant of Hero Honda Splendor in which provides a meter console, exciting body graphics and power start. It has a digital CDI Ignition, tubular double cradle type chassis.
Safety Features
All variants of Hero Honda Splendor is fitted with a front suspension of Telescopic hydraulic fork and the rear suspension of Swing arm with 5 step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers. The front and rear brake is of drum type which has the diameter of about 130mm in Super Splender while the Splendor Plus is of expanding shoe type. The standard braking system in the Hero Honda bikes works very effective under normal speed. If the speed reaches above 60 kmph, it is necessary to operate both brakes simultaneously in order to avoid skidding or instant braking.
