The leading Italian Auto maker Fiat has introduced its much awaited premium hatchback known as Grande Punto in the Indian market. The new Punto has been launched with three engine options such as petrol, diesel and multijet turbo diesel engine. The cost of the Fiat Punto is nearly Rs.7.60 lakh which is the ex-showroom price in Delhi.

Fiat Grande Punto Engine

The Fiat Punto comes in three engine options such as two engines for petrol and one engine for diesel variants. The entry level variant of the car is powered by a 1.2L,1172 cc, FIRE petrol engine which churns out the maximum power of 68 BHP @ 6000 RPM in combination with the maximum torque of 96 NM @ 2500 RPM. Likewise, another option of petrol Grande Punto comes with 1.4 L, 1368 cc, FIRE engine delivers the maximum power of 90 BHP @ 6000 RPM and maximum torque of 115 NM @ 4500 RPM. At the same time, the disel variant of the car is packed with a 1.3 L, 1248 cc, Multijet Turbo engine along with new Variable Geometry Turbocharger technology which produces the peak power of 76 VHP @ 4000 RPM and peak torque of 197 NM @ 1750 RPM. Among all the engine, the 1.3 L multijet engine is the perfect pick up with the decent power delivery.

Acceleration, Mileage and Fuel Economy

The company claims that the acceleration and pick up is good in Punto. The Fiat Punto’s 1.2L, 1172cc petrol engine can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 14.5 seconds with the maximum speed of 155 kmph. The car with a 1.4 L, 1368 cc, FIRE petrol engine can cross the barrier of 0-100 kmph in just 10.9 seconds with the maximum speed of 178 kmph. On the other hand, the diesel variant with 1.3 L, 1248 cc, Multijet, VGT can be able to touch 0-100 kmph in just 13.6 seconds with the maximum speed mark of 165 kmph. The Punto’s engines are well known for their performance, fuel economy and mileage. The petrol variants of the car offers a decent mileage of about 12 kmpl in city roads and 16 kmpl on the highway roads. While the diesel variants of the car provides a decent mileage of about 14 kmpl in urban roads and 19 kmpl mileage on highways.

The interiors of the car looks very similar to the Linea and it looks so stylish and neat. The Fiat Punto is based on the Italian designs which is very impressive with the dual tone dashboard. Fiat Punto comes in new dynamic, fluid and stylish exterior features which holds an aggressive front grille looks very strong and bold. The base and mid level variants such as Active, Dynamic and Emotion is fitted with steel wheel with full wheel cover while its top end variant Emotion is packed with the sporty alloy wheels. The vehicle is offered with puncture resistant tubeless tyres which facilitates off-road driving. The tyre sizes of Fiat Punto are measured as 165/80 R14 for Active and Dynamic, 175/70 R14 for Emotion and 195/60 R15 for Emotion Pack. The external dimensions of the car includes a length of 3,987 mm, width of 1,687 mm and height of 1,495 mm. Along with that, the wheelbase of the car is measures as 2510 mm and the fuel tank capacity of the car is about 45 litres.

Braking and Handling

The braking and handling of the Punto is one of the best in its class with its excellent brakes and suspension system. The front wheels of the car is fitted with the 257 mm disc brakes and the rear wheels are incorporated with 203 mm drum brakes. The disc brakes at the front makes the vehicle very easy to stop in any situation. The higher end models are well packed with an advanced braking technology known as AntiLock Braking System with Electronic Brake Force Distribution which improves more safety even in slippery roads.
