Since the Sail is available in both petrol and diesel options, the petrol version of the car is fitted with a power packed 1.2 litre SMARTECH engine with four cylinders, 16 valves, an efficient MPFI supply system. The engine accommodates a DOHC and it offers the displacement of 1199cc generating maximum power of about 84.2 BHP @ 6000 RPM and torque of 113 NM @ 5000 RPM. At the same time, the diesel variant of the car comes with a 1.3 litre turbocharged engine with 4 cylinders, 16 valves similar to petrol version except the addition of sequential injection fuel supply system. It gives 1248cc displacement and delivers the maximum power of 76.9 BHP @ 4000 RPM along with a torque of about 205 NM @ 1750 RPM respectively which is quite good. Both engine options are mated with a 5-speed manual transmission gear box and BS-IV emissions which helps in delivering good mileage and performance.
Mileage, Acceleration and Fuel Economy
The Chevrolet Sail gives a decent mileage in which the petrol version generates a healthy mileage of about 18.2 kmpl and the diesel variant offers 22.10 kmpl while driven under standard conditions. The petrol engine of Sail can have the ability to cross 0-100 kmph in just 12.9 seconds where as the diesel engine can propel 0-100 kmph in just about 11.9 seconds. The petrol model can attain the top speed of about 145-150 kmph and the diesel model can attain the top speed of about 150-155 kmph which is quite outstanding. The car is well known for its fuel efficiency with 40 litres of fuel tank capacity which assures for longer drives. One of the important feature of the diesel variant is that it has good drivability even lugged into a higher gear.
Interiors
The Chevrolet Sail is really awesome and exciting with the interior features. The interiors comes in dual tone combination of coffee beige colour with lot of storage spaces such as a center stack bezel along with metallic paint, front door map pockets, cup holders in the front console, front seat back pockets etc. The company has designed the interiors keeping in mind of offering more luxurious and comfort features. The seats are of plush type wrapped with premium fabric upholstery which is good for the passengers ample space with good head, shoulder space with enough leg room. There is a large volume glove box for keeping the lot of things. The interior comes in chrome finished door handles, parking brake which enhances the style of the interiors. The car features a premium quality leather steering wheel and gear knob. It has an air conditioning unit with metallic paint finished air conditioner vents which reduces the heat of the entire cabin. The front and rear power windows with power adjustable external rear view mirrors are also available in the car for better comfort. Additional comfort features includes a day and night internal rear view mirror, a rear seat arm rest with cup holders, height adjustable front seat head rests etc. The driver felt very much comfort with a remote fuel filler lid opener along with a remote tail gate release button, sun visor for the driver. Apart from this, it has rear seat integrated head rests, vanity mirror, luggage compartment lamp, cigar lighter, an ashtray, a digital clock on the audio display, a rear defogger and many more. These features makes the driving a pleasurable and comfortable for the passangers.
Exteriors
Like Interiors, the exteriors of Sail is also too good. The Sail features an extremely aerodynamic body structure with a dynamic design and silhouette. The Sail has an elegant, bold and forceful front appearance with a dual port radiator grille of gloss matte black and chrome finished. The front grille possess a thick horizontal slat with the company logo in golden colour. It has a large headlight cluster with high intensity lamps and side turn blinkers. Below the chrome grille, a body coloured front bumper with air dam in the center encircled by a pair of star styled fog lamps. The car is well equipped with front laminated glass windscreen and a pair of intermittent wipers. The wheels of the car gives more style to the side profile. The wheels comes with a set of 8 spoke, 14 inch alloy wheels of size 14x5.5J wrapped with muscular tubeless radial tyres of size 175/70 R14 which offers excellent road grip. The sides have been integrated with body colored ORVMs and the rear end comes with a tail lamp cluster as well as a high mounted stop lamp and a rear body coloured bumper. It has a large rear wind screen and defogger along with a sleek mounted antenna for better signal receiption of FM radio. The five seating car is very liberal and spacious with the measurements such as 4249 mm length, 1690 mm width, 1503 mm height, 2465 mm wheel base etc. In addition, the minimum ground clearance is 168 mm and the turning radius is approximately 10.3 metres.
Braking, Handling and Safety Features
Like Sail U-VA, Sail also offers decent braking and handling characteristics with excellent braking system. The front tyres are of disc type brakes while the rear tyres are of drum type brakes. It comes with an advanced AntiLock Braking System with EBD ensures better safety. Along with that, the car has a McPherson Strut type with passive twin tube gas filled shock absorber front suspension system and torsion beam axle with gas filled shock absorber rear suspension system which is rather impressive. While talking about the safety features, it holds a number of features which includes an engine immobilizer, front seat 3-point ELR belts with pre-tensioners etc. There is a driver seat belt reminder notification, a key-in reminder and a door open warning notification.
