General Motors has showcased its compact sedan concept known as Chevrolet Essentia at the Auto Expo Event 2016. This new Essentia will be a sub 4m sedan and it will be a tough rival to its similar other cars like Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent if launched in India. It has been designed satisfying the tastes of the Indian customer. This new compact sedan is expected to be priced around Rs.5.50 lakh for the base variant.
The new Chevrolet Essentia comes with an American nomenclature of ‘notchback’ but it seems to be a traditional car with richly appointed notchback. The headlamps, foglamps, hood and upper grille looks very identical except for the chrome strip. Moving to the side profile, the Essentia gets tall beltline, small wheels, oversized arches etc. But it does not give a decent look compared to its competitors and the rear appearance is not so bad.
The interior of the cabin is decorated with a dual tone color combination and overall fit and finish is good. Its instrumental cluster will have large speedometer along with an additional display for viewing of all the vital information. It will accommodate five people comfortably along with an excellent boot storage capacity without any compromise to style.
The vehicle borrows the platform from its Beat hatchback. Some of its premium features of the vehicle include AC vents, floor mats, excellent door panels, decently stitched seating arrangements and many more. In order to enhance the entertainment system, the Essentia will be incorporated with the infotainment system Chevrolet MyLink2, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto softwares.
Talking about its engine section, the new Essentia is powered by a 1.2litre STEC II engine delivering high power of 77bhp and torque of 107Nm where as the diesel engine gets a 1.0L XSDE unit. This diesel engine generates the maximum power of 56bhp and maximum torque of 142.5Nm. Both petrol and diesel engines will be paired to a five speed manual transmission system.
The Essentia may have disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear for better braking. Likewise, the car will be offered with Mcpherson Strut front suspension and Compound Link type rear suspension for easy handling of the vehicle. In order to enhance the safety, the new Essentia will be well equipped with both active and passive safety features such as Dual Airbags, ABS and a rear camera giving a complete peace of mind.
Overall, the Chevrolet Essentia will be a good choice for the people those who are looking for a comfortable family which should have enough space to carry family members along with their luggages to go for a weekend trip to the nearest hilly areas. This concept vehicle represents the evolution of the brand – distinct, modern and progressive. Chevrolet plans to sale this new car during the first part of 2017.
