About Datsun

Datsun is an automobile brand owned by the Nissan Motor Company.The first initials of the company formed from its three investors and mean "Lighting Fast".The company's motto "durable","Attractive" and "Trustworthy" also contained within the meaning of the company name.Headquartered in Japan, it has started its operations in 1931. In 1919,the Practical Automobile Manufacturing Company was established for manufacturing three-wheeled vehicles designed by American engineer William Gorham, became a key figure of Today's Nissan Motor. DAT Jidosha Seizo becomes affiliated with the Tobata Foundry Co and developed a new lightweight and economical, yet durable, car named as “DAT-son”,thus the brand name gets changed into “DATSUN”. Later,Jidosha Seizo Co. becomes the Nissan Motor Co., Ltd, the name taken from an abbreviation of its holding company “Nihon Sangyo,” or “Japan Industries. Nissan laid a foundation for the mass production plant for automobiles at Yokohama,which has not only transformed the way vehicles are made but also has a profound effect on the Japanese economy. After selling 20 million cars in 190 countries around the world, the Datsun brand is phased out, and the Nissan name is used as the company expands globally. After an absence of nearly three decades, Nissan has revived its Datsun brand, with the launch of a new hatchback Datsun Go, a made-for-India car. It is no surprise that Nissan chose a hatchback since India is a hatchback country.Nissan chose India as a prime automobile destination to bring forth the Go since the country is an emerging auto market with maximum prospective buyers coming from the middle class.Now,many more models like Go+,mi- Do, on Do following the launch of Datsun Go. In 2014 the redi-GO concept car was presented. Thus, Datsun has achieved the status as one of the loved brands of the 20th century.

The Datsun OnDo is not available in India, so its performance in India cannot be commented upon. Should it be launched in India, it will probably do well if keenly priced. Not above 5 lakhs on road. The On Do will cannibalize the wagon. One has to go. The wagon and the sedan cannot live together. One has to go. The wagon makes more sense in India.
