Maruti Suzuki is in the news again but this time with the achievement of 3 lakh units of K-series engine. The engine is fitted in the robust models – Swift [images], Swift Dzire [images], Ritz [images] and A-Star [images]. Maruti boasts this achievement made in the time span of just 19 monhts since the introduction of the engine. The official of the company said that the success rate of K-series engine will take the significance to the elevated level to make Maruti retain its supremacy in the automobile sector. Maruti is to phase this engine to other cars in the next three to five years. Maruti enjoys 50% of the market in India with the sale in last month reaching 765526 units of 1526787 units of net passenger cars sold in India.(Maruti launches upgrade Swift and Swift Dzire)
K-series engine comes in two variants – 998cc three cylinder called K 10B is fitted in A-Star, Estilo and the refined WagonR. Another one is 1.2 lit 4-cylinder called K12M petrol found in Ritz, Swift and Swift Dzire. Maruti has the engine variety, other than this K-series, like F Series found in M800 [images] and Alto [images]; G-series fitted in MUVan Eeco[images]; M series fitted for SX4 mid size sedan. K-series engines constitute nearly 25% of the total 10 lakh units made in a year by Maruti Suzuki India.
The recent feat by the engineers of Maruti in reaching 1600 engines per day gave hope for further increase. The investment of about Rs1500 crore for doubling the capacity at Gurgaon facility enables production of 5 lakh annual units in addition to R&D centre at Rohtak. There will be additional investment of Rs1665 crore for increased production capacity of vehicles to 1.25 million in another two years. The current capacity is 1 million units with the addition of the new Manesar facility.
