Yamaha, the Japanese two wheeler manufacturer has launched its Alpha scooter at a price of Rs.49,518 in 2014 Auto Expo. The Alpha scooter may reach 14,000 units in sales by the end of this month.
Roy Kurian, vice-president, Yamaha Motor India Sales, said “We are hopeful of recording 14,000 units of Alpha sales by this month (March) across the country. Bangalore, which is among the biggest two-wheeler markets in India, holds a pre-eminent position for us.”
Alpha scooter measures 1785mm in length, 675mm in width and 1124mm in height. The wheelbase of the scooter is 1270mm while the minimum ground clearance is 128mm. It weighs 104Kg including the fuel and the seat height of the scooter is 775mm.
The heart or engine of Alpha scooter is 113cc, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve, single-cylinder engine with V-belt automatic gearbox. The clutch type of the scooter is dry and centrifugal automatic. BS24 carburetor with TPS, the engine can generate maximum power output of 7.1 PS at 7500rpm and maximum torque output of 8.1 Nm at 5000 rpm. The company claims that the engine can return an overall mileage of 62kmpl.

It comes with flat and long seat option for both riders and pillion. The under seat storage option is 21 litre water proof area. It also receives stylish meter console.
At the front part, Alpha is equipped with drum brake and telescopic forks suspension. The tyres fitted with size of 90/100 -10 (53J) at the both front and rear.
The rear of the scooter gets the drum brake and unit swing suspension.
