Volkswagen which missed the bus to Maruti Suzuki in 80s plans to conquer the Indian market with the series of launches. Last year it launched the passat sedan to compete with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Though the company has only 3 dealership in India it enjoys 15% market share in the entry level luxury car segment Boasting with the success of passat, Volkswagen has bring the well known Jetta to India. Volkswagen has sold millions of jetta worldwide and in India the car will take on the mighty Honda civic and Cheverolet Optra Magnum. But this one is priced premium over those established brands. Volkswagen has also said it future products will come at a premium. Having said that, the group is devising strategies to achieve 12% market share from just 1% now. What brings the Volkswagen management such a confidence? What is reason behind their success? How Volkswagen and Skoda will co-exist in Indian market? We interviewed Makham Dhalivaal, Managing Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt Ltd. Dhalivaal is candid, he explained why customers prefer Volkswagen’s,Skoda’s and Audi’s, Volkswagen plans for expanding dealership network and brand diffrentiation of skoda and Volkswagen. He also told us that Volkswagen is very much interested in bringing latest technologies like BlueTec to the Indian market but the quality of fuel available here is hampering them.
