Inorder to replace the starter motor of Nano,Tata Motors has called 1.40 lakh Nano owners to bring their cars for free service.Around an estimated amount of Rs.110 crores,the company said that it is just changing the old starter motor with a new and ‘better’ one and refused that it is a recall.
Sources said,”We have devised a better starter motor and so we are upgrading it in our old Nanos for improved performance.We have not received any complaint for this and this is not a recall”.
Tata Motors has already started this replacement activity in October and has replaced the starter motor in about 50,000 Nano cars.The company also plans to change the motor in all the old Nanos that were sold before launching the Nano 2012 in November.
Regarding this replacement action of Tata Motors,Mr.Deepesh Rathore – IHS Automotive India Head commented,”Tata Motors,like any other car-maker,wants to ensure that its customers are satisfied with their product.So they are willingly replacing the starters in all available Nanos in the market.”
Recently in last week,Toyota has announced recall of its flagship products Etios and Liva inorder to rectify the defect in the inlet pipe of the fuel tank.Likewise,in September Honda said it would call back 72,115 units of its flagship mid-sized City sedan to replace defective power window switches.
