FI engine to power bullets:
Vintage bikes are so cool! when they embrace modern technology while keeping their typical chracterstics champagne (champion) is made. Royal Enfield plans to adopt Fuel Injection (FI), twin sparks and integrated gearbox for its next generation engines. The engine is developed in 350 cc and 500 cc engine displacements. Royal Enfield has invested around Rs50 crores for the next generation engines and designs. Already Royal Enfield confirmed indian market will only receive the 350cc engine(developing maximum power around 22bhp) with gearbox integrated and two spark plugs. The advancements also escalate the cost of prodcution hence the new thunderbird UCE will be priced around 1lakh. Provision of FI might further escalate the price and the consequence the RE may not find enough buyers in india. Hence the new ‘thunderbird twinspark’ bares the Fuel Injection. The 500cc FI will be launched in advanced markets and the company has made no word on the model for the indian market.
Electra EFI and a facelifted classic:
Pricing is not the factor for export markets and since Bullets has to comply tougher EURO III emission norms(In India motorcycles have to follow Euro II norms), Royal Enfield will use the 500cc UCE with Fuel Injection for developed markets like U.S, U.K, Germany, France, Australia, Italy, Hungary, Japan and others. Currently, Royal Enfield has two international models – the ‘Classic’ and the ‘Electra models’ . Of these the electra will be replaced with the new Electra EFI and soon a facleifted classic will be introduced that will suit the new generation of classic design and styling.
Recently, a pre-production version of Royal Enfield Bullet electra 500cc with Fuel Injection(FI) technology is tested by a French magazine. The new 500cc engine also comes with an injected catalyst to meet euro 3. Royal Enfield has built the engine with the help of experts in countries across the world. Though the new engine’s main architecture is being developed in chennai, NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) and internal combustion of the engine is tested by European design consultants. While its reliability is tested with the help of Japanese consultants. Royal Enfield’s 500cc EFI engine produces 30bhp. According to the French magazine, the 500cc FI engine rolls up at 110 km/h without sustained pressure and capable of reaching 130kmph. More details on this new machine are expected
