Volkswagen Vento caught fire in Pune

In an unfortunate incident happened in Pune, Volkswagen Vento caught fire when the owner tried to park the vehicle. Vento launched two years before was a run away success for Volkswagen. But this is the first major untoward incident happened.

Regarding this issue, Manohar Joshi, Senior Inspector of Deccan Police reported that the car caught fire when he came near Vaishali restaurant on FC Road. Gupta was stuck inside the car as the doors had got locked. Some citizens broke the windscreen and pulled him out of the burning car.

Joshi informed that it was a black Volkswagen Vento… another car was parked there… was also damaged. Gupta was immediately taken to a private hospital. He also added that a team from the Regional Transport Office had carried out an examination of the car. They will give their report in a day or two. An offence may be registered in the case after they get the report. An expert team from the company has taken the car for examination.

On hearing the news, Mr. Alexander Skibbe, the head of communications for Volkswagen Group, India commented, “We take such incidents with utmost seriousness and treat them as priority. After we got to know about the incident, we have started a thorough investigation. To assist investigations, we have called..a team of experts from Germany. More details about the issue cannot be shared as investigation is still on.” …

Garware to launch Hyosung GT250R in India

Garware Motors plans to launch Hyosung GT250R in India within two months. The bookings of the bike will commence from May month. GT250R looks almost similar to GT650R. The only difference in GT250R when compared to GT650R is the engine with a lesser displacement of 250cc. The engine wil deliver a peak power of 28.89PS and a maximum torque of 22.68Nm. As such the other 250cc bikes, Hyosung GT250R is also expected to be priced below Rs. 2 lakhs. The naked version of the bike will be launched soon after the launch of the faired version of GT250R.

Mahindra to buy Ducati?

Ducati motorcycle brand, owned by Investindustrial Holdings is now for sale at 1.6 billion dollars. Mahindra, Volkswagen and BMW have shown keen interest on buying the Ducati brand.

Andrea Bonomi, Chairman of Investindustrial Holdings informed that Ducati is now a perfect company but for further growth it requires the support of a world-class industrial partner. This year, they will work towards that partner.

Bonomi also said that many investors and auto manufacturers have shown their interest in buying Ducati. Investindustrial Holdings expect Ducati to be sold for a price of $1.6 million (£1 million). Some of the potential Ducati buyers include German brands like BMW & Volkswagen and India’s vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra and Mahindra.

Tata Motors increases prices of Indica and Indigo Manza

Inorder to tackle with the rising input costs, Tata Motors has raised the prices of its cars by up to Rs.12,000 except the Nano and Aria.

Sources informed that the high input costs have been impacting them (Tata Motors) for quite some time. They have decided to pass on some burden to their customers. The quantum of the hike will vary between Rs.7,000 and Rs.12,000 depending on the model.

The price hike has been effected since last friday.

Mitsubishi reveals all-new Outlander

The all-new Outlander of Mitsubishi has been revealed. It is to be unveiled next month at the Geneva motor show. The car is based on the PX-MiEV II concept which was already showcased at the Tokyo Motor show with slight changes in it.

The changes in its features include a revised front grille, a different lower front bumper and a slightly softened front end with circular fog lights. The interior looks almost similar to its predecessor except the new dashboard, a new multi-function steering wheel and a clearer instrument panel.

It may be powered by the same 2.0-litre MIVEC petrol engine and the 2.2-litre MIVEC clean diesel engine. The new Outlander also sports a new adjustable steering column, a flat cargo area, dual-zone air-con, wide vision xenon headlamps and a powered tailgate.

M&M plans to launch compact Xylo by this year Diwali

Mahindra, at the launch of Xylo facelift declared that it will launch the Compact Xylo by this year at the time of Diwali. It seems that the price of the Compact Xylo may start from Rs.5 lakhs.

At the launching ceremony of Xylo facelift, the Senior Vice President of M&M, Mr.Arun Malhotra reported that the compact Xylo will come by Diwali this year… When a completely new vehicle is introduced in a new price band, then it usually creates its own segment and customer base. This (compact Xylo) may do the same.

He also said the price of the the top-end variant of the compact Xylo may overlap with the base-price of the existing version.

Yamaha launches two limited editions of R15

Yamaha has launched two new editions of its R15 model viz., the 50th Anniversary and the Fiery Red. The Fiery Red edition comes in a base red colour with the flare-patterned graphics on it. It will be available at a price of Rs.1,10,000. (Ex,Delhi).

The 50th Anniversary edition of R15 is mainly designed to celebrate the company’s 50th Anniversary of Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix. It comes in a combination of white and red racing colour. It will be available at a price of Rs.1,11,000. (Ex,Delhi). The engine and the other specifications of the two editions remain the same.

Maxhindra Xylo E9 gets Scorpio engine
