Mahindra has been working on a new 160cc commuter motorcycle. The new 160cc motorcycle will be positioned in premium commuter motorcycle segment. It will compete with the bikes such as Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-I, TVS Apache RTR 160, Hero CBZ Xtreme, Honda unicorn and Suzuki Gixxer. Mahindra also plans to introduce 110cc automatic scooter. The company will launch this 110cc scooter first which is production ready.
Currently the company has two motorcycles –Centuro and Pantero which are powered by 106cc engine option. It plans to expand its portfolio by adding 150-160cc range motorcycles. The company offers four models in its scooter segment – Duro DZ, Rodeo RZ, Flyte and also Kine. The scooters such as Rodeo RZ, Duro DZ, and Flyte are powered by 124.6cc single cylinder engine while the Kine scooter gets 71.5 cc engine option.
Mahindra Two Wheelers Limited (MTWL) a person who involved in the project said “MTWL is working on a 160cc premium commuter motorcycle, which, if all goes well, is expected to be rolled out either by end-2014 or in early 2015. However, the utmost priority for the company remains to roll out the ready 110cc scooter, which is squarely aimed at garnering volumes.”
