Bajaj to re-enter 100cc segment

Bajaj Auto which exited the 100cc segment two years back plans to re-enter the segment on account of falling sales. Bajaj once said that it will not compete with Hero Honda in 100cc segment instead it would launch 125cc+bikes and sway away buyers from 100cc segment. Following the announcement, it introduced a new engine platform called DTS-Si and it launched a new motorcycle called XCD 125cc. It also upgraded the platina to 125cc segment. But none of these motorcycles failed to make the cut. On the contrary Hero Honda moved forward aggressively and increasing the gap from Bajaj in terms of sales. Now to counter the sagging sales, Bajaj wants to re-enter the 100cc market. We informed you earlier, Bajaj is producing a ultra low cost bike with a chinese manufacturer. Bajaj’s ultra low cost bike might be christened as ‘steel’  and Bajaj will also export the bike to african countries like Nigeria.

Earlier this month, Bajaj started production in China and have shipped 1,000 made-in-China bikes to Nigeria through India. Bajaj currently produces boxer in China.Chances are high that Boxer might also be re-launched again in India. With the ultra low cost steel and boxer, Bajaj might hope to give Hero Honda bikes a run for its money. Commenting on the low cost 100cc bike Bajaj Auto, Managing Director, Rajiv Bajaj said, “We are looking at numbers above 20,000 units per month for this motorcycle,” .
