The implementation of Bharat Stage IV has finally given way for the adoption of BS III. The cities uncovered under BS IV and NCR will see the BS III in force from this October and an official communication in this regard has already been issued recently. This communication made the norm of BS IV as a mandatory in Sholapur and Lucknow.
The BS III norm will be applicable for all vehicles – two and three wheelers manufactured after October 1 2010. BS IV norm was early meant for 13 cities in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, including, Secunderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Surat, Kanpur, Agra, Sholapur and Lucknow. The last two cities had got postponement and this time they have been covered. The reason cited for postponement is the difficulty expressed by the oil companies in supplying the fuels.
The confusion about selling of BS II in select cities and the sale of BS IIII in BSIV covered cities still persists. The manufacturers face difficulties in registering their vehicles for this reason. There has been no clear indication about the implementation of these two norms.
