Tata Nano also Known as the world’s cheapest car could be soon crossing on the roads of Pakistan as an International Multi Group of Companies based on Pakistan desires to import vehicles from Tata Group of India, including the Nano and CNG buses.
Amjad Rashid, the IMGC Global Chairman informed that they already have a letter of intent with the Tata Group as they were interested in their CNG buses. At a later stage, if restrictions in the trade policies of both India and Pakistan are removed, they are interested in bringing the Nano to Pakistan.
However, the plan of importing CNG buses from India has been held up due to the restrictions in Pakistan’s trade policy. At present, vehicles are generally assembled necessarily in the Pakistan as per the norms of the country’s trade policy. Also, the Reserve Bank of India’s policies do not allow joint ventures and investments in Pakistan.
Regarding this,Rashid told that they raised these issues with Indian Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar when he was in Islamabad last month for talks with the Pakistani Commerce Secretary and he promised to get these restrictions removed. He also informed that his group, which has an annual turnover of about USD 200 million, is keen on bringing the Nano into Pakistan. This is their ultimate objective and they already have a letter of intent. Once the bottlenecks are removed, they would import the CNG buses and the next step would be the Nano.
