Piaggio Vehicles, the Indian subsidiary of the Italian company,plans to increase its Porter range of vehicles.A two decades ago,the Porter series of mini pick up trucks were first introduced in Italy, when Piaggio joined hands with Japanese automaker Daihatsu. In the past, the Porter has been sold in European markets under the badge of ‘Daihatsu Hijet’.The Piaggio Porter 600 is powered by 511 cc,single cylinder engine which can generate maximum power output of 10 bhp and maximum torque of 27 Nm.Now Piaggio plans to launch its Porter 800 in India.Porter 800,the four wheel truck will be powered by 800 cc engine.

Hyundai has unveiled its first sub-four meter sedan based on Grand i10 hatchback.The Xcent be available with both petrol and diesel engine options from its Grand i10. Xcent will include 1.1 litre diesel engine option and 1.2 litre petrol engine with 5 speed manual transmission as a standard.The petrol engine will be available with four speed automatic gear box.Hyundai Xcent will go on sale by March of this year.

Hyundai has unveiled its Grand i10 compact sedan which is to be called ‘Xcent’.The name ‘Xcent’ is derived from the ‘Accent’ which is one of the popular models of Hyundai. Xcent, a sub 4-meter sedan will get both petrol and diesel engine options.It will include the features like steering mounted audio controls, push button start, Keyless go, dual airbags,cooled glove box, ABS (Antilock Braking System) as in the Grand i10. It will also include auto folding mirrors 2-DIN audio system with 1 GB Memory.

On the interior side it will get rear arm rest,rear parking sensors with reversing camera and also climate control AC. It will also receive dual shade beige and black interiors & seats, multiple storage options on the door trims and center console. On the exterior side it will get diamond cut alloy wheels, Swept back headlamps, wide daylight opening area, rear chrome garnish, wrap around taillamps with chrome inserts,hexagonal airdam and kick up trunk lid design. It will take on the cars like Tata Zest, Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze. It will hit on the roads by next month.

Skoda plans to unveil Rapid facelift and special edition of Rapid along with its Superb facelift and also the Yeti facelift. The both new Rapid facelift and special edition of Rapid, ‘Ultima’ are likely to be displayed at the Auto Expo.

The new Rapid facelift is expected to get new headlights, new front grille and revamped bumper. It will come with the same 1.6 litre petrol engine and also 1.6 litre diesel engine with 5-speed manual gearbox. Both the petrol and diesel engine can churn out maximum power of 105 Ps.The Rapid Ultima will get 1.6 litre diesel engine with 5 speed gear box. The engine can produce maximum power of 105 Ps and maximum torque of 250 Nm. The engine can return an ARAI certified mileage of 20.5 kmpl.

The Rapid Ultima will get the features like two-tone leather seats, rear parking sensors with reverse camera, Bluetooth connectivity and climate control. We can expect the Rapid Ultima at a price of more than Rs.10 lakh approximately.

Mahindra plans to debut a new variant of Quanto at 2014 Auto Expo. The new variant of Quanto will be an AMT version of Quanto. The Quanto will get the same 1.5 litre, three cylinder, turbo diesel engine. The engine can generate maximum power output of 98.6 bhp and maximum torque output of 240Nm.

Recently, Mahindra has added “Yoga seats” to the Quanto.Now the company plans to include the AMT or semi automatic gearbox with its Quanto. The Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) is an important feature of heavy duty vehicles.The semi automatic gearbox can eliminate the manual clutch by making gear shifting. AMT is lighter than automatic gear boxes. So the overall weight can be minimized which leads to better fuel efficiency.

Following the HX250R, Hero motocorp will unveil a superbike. Yes its a superbike codenamed as Hastur. The hastur bike will be a 600cc model competing against the likes of KTM duke 690. Hero Hastur 600cc is being jointly developed with its Erik Buell Racing. Its important to remember, Hero picked up majority stake after its split with Honda and ever since the duo has been working together for various bikes.

Hero Hastur 600cc will be at conceptual stage when its unveiled at the auto expo. However, Hero looks into put into production mainly for international markets as Hero plans to expand globally. But how comes Hero shocks not only its competitors but also the consumers with jaw dropping concepts. Will the concepts turn into reality? will they be affordable? how come Hero suddenly leaps in the learning curve when other manufacturers like Bajaj and TVS are taking step-by-step?
