Bajaj RE60 QUADRICYCLE SIGNATURE COLLECTION by Christopher Hogan

From the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, design engineers have used the automobile body as a means through which they could express their artistic visions -- stylizing a car’s bonnet, bumper, and paintwork to capture every creative design detail. Rarely, however, does the body of the car become the canvas upon which the art, not design, becomes the primary focus of the artistic expression. Featured at this year’s Auto Expo will be the introduction of the RE60.

bajaj-re60-1

QUADRICYCLE SIGNATURE COLLECTION, Cive eye-popping, vibrantly painted Bajaj RE60 models. The showcased collection represents an association between Bajaj Auto Ltd. and the renowned Australian artist and sculptor, Christopher Hogan. The goal of the partnership was to create a visual celebration for the launch of Bajaj Auto’s new 216cc vehicle on the world stage at the Auto Expo opening February 6, 2014. Bajaj Auto Ltd., based in India, commissioned artist Christopher Hogan to conceptualise, design, and paint a series of Cive, unique vehicles.

Upon accepting the project, Hogan had a strong desire to showcase India by transforming the RE60 vehicle, India’s revolutionary Quadricycle, from a factory -- made automobile into a cultural statement of expression, incorporating recognizable symbols and designs native to the country. Hogan carefully researched which national icons would be the most impactful, visually and would best represent the overall cultural aesthetic. “Vibrant colour is such an integral ingredient in Indian way of life, that it was an important consideration in the selection of the Cive symbols: the Tiger, Lotus Flower, Mango Fruit, Peacock, and Banyan Tree in my Cinished creations.” details Hogan.

bajaj-re60-2

“I have designed and personally hand-painted each of the RE60 Art Quadricycles in my contemporary abstract macro style to represent symbolically Cive national icons that along with Bajaj Auto, represent the very fabric of the Indian culture.” explains Hogan. Each Quadricycle’s kaleidoscope of color and recognizable patterns will certainly evoke a sense of excitement, playfulness, and glee to even the most sceptical automobile-aCicionado. Of his unique, yet distinctively recognisable style of painting, Hogan joking comments, “I was driven to abstraction. There were enough artists painting ‘well-behaved’ landscapes and marine images without me adding to the list. Rather, I feel I contribute a contemporary slant through my depiction of these macro images.

In essence, I reduce simple images to a series of spots and stripes”. The resultant compositions are striking paintings and sculpture that invite multiple interpretations from the viewer.” Combining art, culture and technology into a visual package that is CHRISTOPHER HOGAN ART RE60.

Skoda unveils redesigned Yeti at 2014 Indian Auto Expo

Skoda has unveiled the redesigned Yeti compact SUV at the ongoing Auto Expo at Greater Noida. The new Yeti will sport the new design language.

The ŠKODA Yeti has been causing a stir in its class since its debut approximately in 2010. ŠKODA’s compact SUV is a straightforward representative of its segment, a Sports Utility Vehicle with character and simple clarity. ŠKODA has now revised its successful model and adapted it to the brand’s new design. The character of the all-rounder vehicle is now even more versatile and defined.

skoda-yeti

The revamp of the ŠKODA Yeti has preserved all of the good elements of the brand’s new design philosophy, including a strong emphasis on horizontals, precise lines, clean edges, a new logo and a striking interplay of light and shadow. “We have fundamentally revamped the ŠKODA Yeti after its market launch. The new design makes it more striking and emphasizes its impressive appearance,” says Frank Welsch, ŠKODA’s board member for technical development. The developers have maintained the SUV’s proven, unmistakable basic design and basic proportions: perpendicular surfaces, large wraparound windows, and its uncompromising shape.

In revising the model, ŠKODA head designer Jozef Kaba?’s team has created two variations worldwide of the Yeti: the ‘urban’ ŠKODA Yeti as a stylish crossover for the city and the ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor, a compact SUV whose powerful off-road elements emphasise its suitability for off-roading. For all the differentiation in design, both variations of the Yeti preserve the car’s extreme versatility and multi-functionality. The current two engines and front- and all-wheel drives are available for on the Yeti.

The ŠKODA Yeti will have completely new front and rear ends with LED rear lights, new radiator grilles, new bumpers, new front headlights and fog lights, a new bonnet and of course the new vehicle logo.

The front end features strong horizontal lines, and the powerful upright radiator grille is enclosed by a chrome frame. Slight relief applications make the car’s vertical grille ribs more distinctive. ŠKODA’s designers have completely reinterpreted the contours of the Yeti’s lights.

The main headlights are more striking and sharper thanks to their precisely cut edges, sharp facet cutting, fine transitions and general avoidance of curves. The headlights are wider than in previous versions. The perfectly executed quality of the crystalline design elements is reminiscent of Czech crystal. For the first time, the Yeti now features bixenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights.

The front fog lights are a characteristic element of the revised Yeti – in a completely new interpretation of shape, size and position. The fog lights for are now rectangular and slightly larger than before. They are also set further underneath the newly designed bumper. This new design means that one characteristic of the new ŠKODA design language becomes visible – the new Yeti’s front and fog lights form the shape of a clover leaf.

The ŠKODA logo is no longer integrated into the grille and is instead gently embossed in the centre (‘nose’) of the bonnet. The logo is executed in chrome on a matte black background, surrounded by a fine chrome line. This premium position is the starting point for the precisely shaped lines of the new bonnet. There are also changes to the sides of the ŠKODA Yeti. The angular shape of the Yeti silhouette remains basically unchanged; however, the wheel houses have a stronger shape than before.

The new striking character of the ŠKODA design is clearly visible in the new alloy wheels. The rims are well-defined, precise and visually appealing. The hubcap for the standard steel wheel of the basic Yeti ‘Active’ has been redesigned.

The motto of the completely redesigned rear of the ŠKODA Yeti is clear and clean: the new logo in the middle of the new hatchback with the ŠKODA name and model name in the new font design to the left and right of the logo.

The new Yeti has two cubist triangular elements on the left and right sides of the hatchback that are so typical of ŠKODA. There are also two new reflectors in the bumper; they are positioned flush with the lower edge of the tailgate. Of course there are also new taillights, including LEDs, in the brand’s typical C design. A new two-stripe layout makes the ‘C’ clearer and brighter. The overall redesign of the rear end makes the Yeti seem wider than before even though the vehicle’s width remains unchanged at 1,793 millimetres. The ŠKODA Yeti features a rear bumper with a clearer light reflecting surface in the vehicle’s body colour and robust safety elements set off in black and silver.

Three metallic paint shades in Metal grey, Magnetic Brown and Brilliant Silver are also new choices for the Superb’s exterior. The design of wheels has also been refreshed.

The Superb limousine still features its clever Twindoor system. Thanks to this unique, patented solution, the hatchback can be opened in two different ways. Users can either just open the boot lid or the entire rear boot including the rear window.

The car features the largest luggage compartment in their class and the most knee room for passengers in the rear seats. No other vehicle in this class offers as much space to its rear seat passengers as the ŠKODA Superb. The vehicle features
157 millimetres of rear leg room – a benchmark in the upper mid-range segment. Starting now, a new feature makes travelling in the rear seats even more comfortable.

The Superb’s luggage compartment is absolutely unbeatable. The basic volume of the limousine is 565 litres, best-in-class. The compartment can be extended to 1,700 by folding the rear seats.

“Simply Clever” wherever you look

This also holds true for the luggage compartment. It is not just gigantic, but also has practical features such as, lockable storage compartments behind the wheel housings, bag hooks and lashing points.

Adaptive Front Light System (AFS) provide the best possible visual conditions when driving in the dark. AFS guarantees optimum illumination of the road and surroundings in various driving situations.

Additional modern assistance system is also available. Hill Hold Control makes it easy to start up slopes without using the hand brake. In the event of an accident, the passengers are protected by up to eight airbags as well as three-point safety belts and height-adjustable headrests. Having produced premium, robust and specialty off road models for decades, SsangYong knows what it takes to create global benchmarks. Our partnership with the Mahindra Group has now allowed us to explore joint product and technology development opportunities and synergize global operations and purchase.”

The New Rodius MPV

Embodying SsangYong Motor’s design philosophy of ‘Premium, Robust and Specialty’, the new Rodius evokes the strong and dynamic appearance of an SUV, and with its large exterior volume is ideal for a wide range of roles ranging from transporting large families, leisure pursuits and urban commuting to official and ceremonial duties.

Positioned as a new-generation APV (All Purpose Vehicle), the SsangYong Rodius has the advantage over its competitors through its unique blend of characteristics including space, robust construction and luxury. The Rodius is equipped with SsangYong’s own 2.0 litre turbo charged e-XDi200 diesel engine offering a level of performance and NVH that have already been tested, proven and praised in the marketplace. The e-XDi200 engine offers maximum power of 155ps/3400~4000rpm and maximum torque of 360Nm/1,500~2,800rpm, and is designed to provide low end torque, whatever the conditions on or off-road.

This all-purpose car has been developed to provide the flexibility of a recreational vehicle (RV), the styling of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and the ride comfort and appointments of a luxury saloon. With key features such as its innovative and flexible design layout, luxurious interior and competitive position in the market place, the new Rodius offers a dynamically strong and distinctive look. Blending both strength and fluidity, the front of the car has a robust stance thanks to its hexagonal shaped radiator grille and trapezoidal bumper, while the grille bars and headlamps afford the rising geometric lines reminiscent of bird wings. Unlike other models in this category, the Rodius features hinged car-like doors, affording greater comfort and safety to passengers, while the distinctively shaped D pillar provides additional strength visually.

The Rodius features a comprehensive package of active safety features, including Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Active Roll over Protection (ARP) and Brake Assist System (BAS) to prevent rollover during sudden cornering at higher speeds and to protect those unable to press the brake pedal hard enough by increasing braking capacity on its own. The car’s passive safety is further increased thanks to two high strength sub-frames fitted to the front and rear of the car. These help to disperse any impact shocks from a frontal or off set collision and protect passengers by minimising cabin distortion. A four channel amp-equipped built-in audio and sound system supports the Bluetooth hands-free function, audio streaming and USB/AUX. 2DIN MP3 CDP is available so passengers can select their favourite music type – jazz, pop, classical etc. – via the equalizer.

The Limitless Interface Vehicle Concept (LIV-1)

In addition to the Rodius, SsangYong also showcased its future strategic concept, the LIV-1 (Limitless Interface Vehicle). The vehicle demonstrates SsangYong’s innovative product development by adopting the 3S-Cube philosophy, consisting of three features, ‘Smart Link, Safe Way and Special Sense’. Housed in a sturdy body frame, this new prototype features SsangYong’s unique four-wheel drive system and an interface that enables those inside the vehicle to more easily use the system. The design aesthetics of the exterior can be described as masculine and robust.

The LIV-1 is very much a car of the future designed for driving safety and pleasure. Along with the XIV (eXciting User-Interface Vehicle) series and the SIV-1 (Smart Interface Vehicle), the LIV-1 shows what the market can expect from SsangYong’s SUV line-up in the future.

The LIV-1’s masculine and sizeable body features a unique frontal design achieved by the combination of intake holes, a grille and headlamps at experimental ratios. The sporty look of the LIV-1 is emphasized by its wide C-filler and greenhouse silhouette. The oversized fenders give this new SUV an unmistakably masculine image just as SsangYong intended, and enthusiasts would be delighted to discover the automated sidestep, designed for their safety and convenience.

The LIV-1’s driver-vehicle communication interface is based on the 3S-Cube, the core of SsangYong’s future technology. The 3S-Cube combines the elements of Smart Link, Safe Way and Special Sense to allow the vehicle to be remote-controlled using a smart device and to provide entertainment both inside and outside the vehicle. Smart Link refers to a roof-and-glass system created from a nano tube technology that removes frost quickly through remote control for safe wintertime driving. The Safe Way technology ensures safe driving through the TSA, which actively prevents collisions in blind spots and at intersections. User-vehicle interaction takes place through the five displays, including the 10-inch monitor in the center fascia and the 7-inch monitor in the headrest. The touch-panel displays featured in the LIV-1 provide you with clear information while creating a futuristic atmosphere.
