Honda to launch Activa 125 by April 2014

Honda plans to launch Activa 125cc scooter in the country by April of this year. The company has already showcased this 125cc scooter at the 2014 Auto Expo. The new 125cc comes with a lot of attractive features. It measures 1761 mm in length, 710 mm in width and 1147 mm in height. It gets the wheelbase of 1238 mm while the ground clearance is 153 mm. It will be powered by a new four stroke engine, air cooled, single cylinder engine. The engine is coupled to Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The engine can develop maximum power output of 8.6 bhp at 6500 rpm and maximum torque output of 10.12 Nm at 5500 rpm.

The activa125cc gets a combi-brake system, optional disc brake, tubeless tyres, clear winkers, front chrome bar, crowned head light, digital meter, viscous air filter as well as maintenance free battery. It will get 5 spoke 12” alloy wheels at the front and 10” alloy wheels at the rear. It features alloy pillion foot rests as well as halogen powered head lights.

The scooter will include telescopic fork suspension at the front and stressed engine mono shock suspension at the rear. It comes with 190 mm optional front disc brake and also 130 mm drum brake at the rear. We can expect the price of Honda Activa 125 at Rs.58,000. Honda will launch this Activa 125 by April of this year.

Mahindra to launch 160cc commuter motorcycle

Mahindra has been working on a new 160cc commuter motorcycle. The new 160cc motorcycle will be positioned in premium commuter motorcycle segment. It will compete with the bikes such as Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-I, TVS Apache RTR 160, Hero CBZ Xtreme, Honda unicorn and Suzuki Gixxer. Mahindra also plans to introduce 110cc automatic scooter. The company will launch this 110cc scooter first which is production ready.

Currently the company has two motorcycles –Centuro and Pantero which are powered by 106cc engine option. It plans to expand its portfolio by adding 150-160cc range motorcycles. The company offers four models in its scooter segment – Duro DZ, Rodeo RZ, Flyte and also Kine. The scooters such as Rodeo RZ, Duro DZ, and Flyte are powered by 124.6cc single cylinder engine while the Kine scooter gets 71.5 cc engine option.

Mahindra Two Wheelers Limited (MTWL) a person who involved in the project said “MTWL is working on a 160cc premium commuter motorcycle, which, if all goes well, is expected to be rolled out either by end-2014 or in early 2015. However, the utmost priority for the company remains to roll out the ready 110cc scooter, which is squarely aimed at garnering volumes.”

Nissan to discontinue X-Trail SUV and 370Z coupe in India

Nissan today announced that it will discontinue the sales of the X-Trail SUV and 370Z coupe in India. The move comes in the wake of Nissan’s decision to focus on its locally manufactured models. However, it will continue to sell the Teana luxury sedan.

The company currently sells the Micra Active, Micra, Sunny, Evalia and Terrano in India, all of which are manufactured at the company’s manufacturing facility in Oragadam, Chennai. The company plans to concentrate on products tailored for India and delivering more value along with world class quality to its customers.

Here are few numbers to crunch on Mahindra Baja SAE 2014

* 327 student team from across India participated and 125 teams made it Baja SAE main event. Out of 125 teams, 106 teams qualified for track event and little over 60 teams managed to withstand all 4 hours.

* Presentation of proposed ATV —->Selected teams qualify for Baja event–> Static Inspection by judges & Technical evaluation by technical committee —->selected teams qualify for dynamic evaluation –> Endurance test on track day

* 3rd year and final year students appear for written test on day 1 –>selected candidates goes for HR meet on final day

* Cash prize totaling to Rs30 lakhs and 2 tablets up for grab

* Students are awarded to a maximum of 1000 marks under three categories – static, dynamic and endurance

* Static event includes design evaluation (150 marks),cost report (15marks), sales presentation (50 marks) and prototype cost (85 marks)

* Dynamic evaluation which includes (acceleration & speed test), hill climbing, maneuverability and (suspension & traction). Each category carries 75 marks

* Endurance test completes the remaining 400 marks

Baja SAE 2014 – Track test

The ultimate event of Baja SAE 2014 is here. Student made ATVs have finally hit the truck and going round and round in the 3.5KM truck. Out of 123 teams, almost 90-95 teams were qualified for the endurance test (post the technical inspection in which few teams were eliminated). The off -road trucks which poses tougher hurdles even for a polaris ranger is a Himalayan task for student made ATVs. However with the determination and team work, students are taking the track test with loads of joy and passion. Right from the word go, the competition is intense with almost 90+ players in the grid its not an easy one though. Teams which earned higher marks in acceleration test made to occupy the pole positions. However the benefit would soon fade away, if you are not getting the momentum at the right time. We could see many buggies failing to start and abruptly stop. The student-drivers have to wave their hand to get help from the team to help starting the engine

Briggs and straton 10hp petrol engine has to be started manually (like an auto-rickshaw). The student assembled transmission is key to get the best output from the engine (as all the teams use the same engine). Another key thing is the suspension, the hard tracks poses danger in each and every step its tough for even an factory build vehicle would fail. I could see many students standing helplessly with broken suspension and failure with engine. However, the lessons they learn from here will now be forgotten. Also not their sweet memories.

Baja Sae 2014 – Live Coverage

2014 Fiat Linea – Price Details

Fiat, the Italian car manufacturer plans to launch Linea facelift in the country. The prices of this Linea facelift are revealed and lower than the existing cars. Linea facelift offers both petrol and diesel variants. It has totally 6 variants, three variants for petrol and other three variants for diesel. The facelift receives more changes on its interior side when compared to its exterior.

The 2014 Fiat Linea gets the same 1.2-litre T-Jet petrol engine and also 1.3-litre Advanced Multi-Jet engine. The 1.2 litre petrol engine can produce maximum power output of 112.4bhp. while the 1.3 litre Advanced Multi-jet diesel engine option can develop peak power of 91bhp.

The Linea facelift gets some changes in its exterior such as new fog lamps, double slat font chrome grill as well as the bumper at the front. It also comes with new bumper with additional chrome strip at the rear. On the interior side it gets a new three-layered, dual-tone dashboard, center console, integrated music system and AC vents, instrument cluster with chrome ringed start/stop dials and silver chrome steering wheel. Chevrolet launches limited edition of Sail and Sail U-VA

General Motors India has launched its limited editions of Chevrolet Sail, sedan and Sail UV-A hatchback in the country. The limited edition of Chevrolet Sail sedan is available at a price of Rs.5.23 lakhs while the Chevrolet Sail U-VA is priced at Rs.4.47 lakhs.

The limited edition offers more accessories worth of Rs.14,000 to 40,000 depends on the variants. These accessories can be fitted to all variants of both hatchback and also the sedan.The Chevrolet Sail sedan gets body graphics, rear parking sensors, special seat covers, illuminated door sills and integrated turn indicators. The Sail U-VA limited edition comes with body graphics, special seat covers, roof rails as well as the integrated turn indicators.

The both hatchback and sedan gets the same engine options. The 1.2 litre petrol engine can produce peak power and peak torque of 86 PS and 113 Nm respectively. The 1.3 litre diesel engine option can churn out 78 PS of maximum power output and maximum torque output of 205 Nm. The both engines are coupled with 5 speed manual transmission.
