GM Chevrolet’s discount offer on Spark, Aveo and Optra

While the Rs58000 discount offer is setting the sales chart of spark on fire. General Motors has launched a trade-in discount for its Chevrolet Aveo and Optra models.Customers turning in their old cars will get a discount of Rs20,000. “This is the first time we’re offering this scheme on these models,” said Ankush Arora, vice-president, sales and marketing, General Motors.

GM Chevrolet to hike prices of its models in January

While GM Chevrolet offersing gallops of discounts on most of its models, the american maker today said that it will increase prices of their cars by 2-3% in January 2009. Also GM will withdraw all the discount schemes being offered on its various models simultaneously. According to P Balendran, director and vice president (coroporate affairs), GM India, the move to hike prices is being taken following the drop in its bottomline during the year. With effect from January all these discounts will be withdrawn, he added.

“We have been offering a discount scheme on our models for an extended period from October. We can no longer take a hit on our bottomline and hence we have decided to effect an upward revision in the prices of our car models. The prices will be increased on all our models from January,” he said. GM is the second auto major after Honda to make a price hike in January.

Hyundai slashes price of Santro,Accent and Verna

Following the other car makers,  Hyundai today slashed prices of its old workhorses – santro and accent.

* Price of santro has gone down by Rs33000 and will come at Rs299,000

* Price of Accent is cut by Rs 7,200 to Rs 499,903,

* Verna has become cheaper by Rs.24,000

Hyundai is also offering free insurance, exchange bonuses and free car accessories worth as much as Rs.15,000 to attract reluctant customers.”The schemes announced should provide an impetus for our sales and offset part of the ownership cost, which has gone up considerably in the past few months,” Hyundai India senior vice-president (marketing and sales) Arvind Saxena said.

Ford India slips back into red in 2007-08

Ford India Pvt Ltd is back in the red in 2007-08, after posting a profit the previous year for the first time since it started operations here nearly a decade ago. Other multinational car manufacturers General Motors India Pvt Ltd, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd and Hyundai Motor India Ltd have posted profits for the year, according to their annual reports.

Hyundai Motor India sold 2,16,495 vehicles in 2007-08 against 1,95,261 in the previous year. Its total income was Rs 10,514 crore (Rs 9,119 crore), expenditure Rs 10,175 crore (8,404 crore) and net profit Rs 514 crore (Rs 467 crore). Ford India produces the Ikon, Fiesta, Fusion and Endeavour at its plant near Chennai. It has an accumulated loss of Rs 819.64 crore. The company, in its annual report for 2007-08, has stated that it planned investments of Rs 2,000 crore. According to the company, it began exports of fully built Fiesta sedans to South Africa and continues to export the Ikon components in knocked down condition to South Africa and Mexico. The value of exports during the year was Rs 146 crore and it helped the company meet its obligations under the EPCG scheme. Ford India’s warranty provision for the year was Rs 13.64 crore (Rs 10.71 crore).

GM India’s accumulated loss amounts to Rs 108.85 crore. Its provision for warranty and after-sales service was Rs 19.21 crore (Rs 20.09 crore). According to Honda Siel Cars India’s annual report, the company carries forward a surplus of Rs 790 crore to the balance sheet. Toyota Kirloskar Motor has said that its warranty provision for the year amounted to Rs 9.33 crore against Rs 7.72 crore the previous year.

Honda plans CBR1000RR and a 125cc bike for India

Honda will soon unleash its superbikes its superbikes following Yamaha,Ducati and Suzuki. You can expect the CBR1000RR soon in your nearby showrooms (if you are in metros). Honda General Manager Marketing N K Rattan said “We will launch two models in super bike category with 800-1000 cc engines in this fiscal. Apart from this, we will also bring a new model in the mass market category before March next year.” For the big-bike business, the company will set up exclusive stores in the four metros initially. “To start with, we will establish our showrooms in the metros. Later on we will expand taking into account serviceability and other issues,” he said.

Honda’s another 125cc+ bike

Honda will also augement its mass market bikes with the launch of new 125cc+ bike soon.  Both the superbikes and the new 125cc bike will be launched before March 2009.
