Mercedes unravels its new E-Class

Come on Ladies and Gentlemen, here’s a classy car from Mercedes. Priced @Rs46.98 lakhs, the German luxury car maker is knocking the hearts of those who desire luxury coupled with comfort and sensation. The new version E-Class will have a 3.5 lit V-6 petrol engine (assembled locally in India). The car in the same term E-Class has already reached some 11000 owners in India. Mercedes was in the news last month when it launched its sedan C-Class car in a bid to improve its overall sales. The company was not fortunate as it was in 2008 as there was a fall in net sales this year and is badly in need of hike in sales. In 2008, Mercedes could sell 3625 units in India.

Ford to launch small car tomorrow

Tomorrow, the Indian automotive will witness the launch of much anticipated car. If not for you, then atleast for Ford fans. Yes, the most expected small car from Ford codenamed B517 will be unveiled on September 23rd. The small car will come both in petrol and diesel variants. The small car will be priced competitevely and will compete against the Maruti Swift. The CEO of Ford Alan Mullaly will unveil the car. But why now? when everyone expects the car to be launched in 2010. Rewinding the history, Ford was never part of Auto Expo where every auto maker loves to showcase their new babies. Hence the management might have felt the festive season would be auspicious time for the launch of small car. Ford is betting heavily on the success of small car. Sources close to Ford says that the small car has come really well. It is spacious and is powered by an 1.2L engine and 1.4L diesel mill. Ford sources are telling us that the small car is going to be priced very competitively as Ford has ensured cost cutting at every stage.  The arrival of Ford’s small car would sound death knell for its competitors.

The new attempt from Tata Motors with Freelander 2

Much after the successful launch of Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Motors has  now come out with Freelander 2(SUV). The 2010 range Freelander will be on roads from this November and will be followed by 2010 Ranger Rover and Range Rover Sports, Discovery 4 in December(as the company has withdrawn Discovery 3 with the first two being in market). Freelander will cost Rs33.8 lakh – Rs45 lakh and will have a 2.2 lit diesel engine with three variants- S, SE, and HSE. The company president for passenger car unit disclosed that Freelander fits in the vacuum left by the competitors for an ideal car.

With the only option by way of Discovery 3 the company was in a position to let the model of old generation. But with the launch of Freelander, Land Rover stable will be revived with all 2010 models. As the SUV market gets the consistent 18-20% growth, Freelander will dare BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. For its intense sales and service, the company has identified cities for 6 more dealerships including Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ludhiana. The lone dealer for India is in Mumbai.

From Two to Three- Yamaha

The most familiar Japanese two-wheeler company Yamaha is entering the automatic scooter business and it means real business. With a whooping 1.2 million scooter market potential in India it is no wonder that Yamaha is riding along the right track. With this, the company would also step up the export segment to attain 140,000 units in 2010, with the current year’s target being 70,000 ( an increase of 30000 units from 2008). Not only that, the number of dealerships would also go up – around 500 within this year from the current 400, penetrating and concentrating the rural sector.

Yamaha has ranges of motorcycles for every segment with the latest 153 cc Limited Edition Fazer and FZ series, 150cc R15, 125cc Gladiator, 106cc G5, Alba and Crux models. All these have proved to be successful across the country and the same spirit is expected of small towns. Yamaha has intensified its “Yes Yamaha” campaign and “Win Win” campaign to promote its ranges to the valued customers, which includes cash rewards upto Rs3001 and trip to Thailand.

Hero Honda launches Karizma ZMR

As you read it, HeroHonda launches its much expected Karizma ZMR FI in India. The new Karizma ZMR comes up with the Programmed Fuel Injection(PGM-FI), a technology patented by Honda Motor company. As for as the technical specifications are concerned, the new Karizma ZMR comes with 17.6 BHP max power at 7000rpm and a peak torque of 18.35Nm at 6000 rpm. Hero Honda claims the max speed of new Karizma ZMR as 135Kmph. The PGM-FI 223cc mill is oil cooled and is mated with a five speed gearbox. Karizma ZMR uses 6 sensors to scan the engine environment (read as speed,rpm,driver’s input). It also uses auto-enriching system and eliminates the need for manual choking. Hero Honda claims karizma ZMR engine uses HECS (Honda Evolutional Catalzying System) to reduce exhaust emissions.

Karizma ZMR has telescopic hydralic shock absorber suspension at the front end and 5 step adjustable iGRS (inverted Gas Reservoir System) suspension at the rear. Karizma ZMR uses disc brakes – 276 mm at the front and 240 mm at the rear. Its Front tyre measures 100/80 80/100 and rear one is 100/90. Karizma ZMR weighs 159 kgs. The dimensions are changed completely – the length has gone from 2125mm to 2110mm, the breadth is now 805mm (755mm earlier), its 1175mm tall and the ground clearance is now 159mm.

The new bike comes with lot of interesting cosmetic changes including the attractive body graphics. The Karizma ZMR FI gets full fairing with integrated turn indicators. The sporty visor sports collapsible rear view mirrors.  Similar to CBZ X-treme the karizma ZMR also gets diamond shaped LED tail lamps,  racy red colored rear cushion spring and split grab rail. Gold colored engine,front forks and iGRS is carried forward from Hunk. The dash is new with digital speedo and circular analog tacho. The Karizma ZMR will be available in Five colours – Blue, White, Yellow, Red and Black.

Update – 1 : Karizma ZMR comes at an exshowroom price of Rs. 91,000 (Delhi).

Update -2:  HeroHonda has no plans to phase out Karizma carburetor version and will continue selling the version along with this new FI version.

The Indian car jumbo, Maruti Suzuki is turning its face to the Indian model, much after three decades of Japan oriented models. To be blessed with the Japanese apex manufacturer for the engine and the design, the car is scheduled for production in Gurgaon plant to resemble the Ritz fora. Maruti is planning to fix the car with the latest 1.2 K-series engine and code named as YP8 with the explorations on for the design, engine and the interiors. Maruti is thriving to display the car possibly in the ensuing Auto expo in Delhi but not finalised yet on the price. The move will be a roundabout indigenous making of the cars by Maruti to steer for a right direction. Thus the company may accrue a lot by way of savings from the royalty paid to the Japan apex company. The move will also save the company from introducing new platforms, which normally yield a lot of expenditures. As the horns on from this car, Maruti would then turn to be a hub for small cars in India, which is ultimately the business strategy of Suzuki itself. Suzuki, in association with Maruti, is exporting A-Star to Europe and the new moves would prove a lot to both.
