In your face – grille modification:
What is the first thing that comes to your mind, when you think BMW? (Hopefully) The kidney grills. The most visual alteration one could do is to change the front grill. This alters one of the most important part of the car giving it a completely new look. Wire mesh grills are easily done and therefore are used in way too many cars. No matter what changes one comes up with nothing comes as close to this idea in redefining your car. Cars with bigger headlights almost always end up looking cool with this technique. Another lesser known accessory you can add to your car is a roof-scoop. Although it’s effect on the style quotient of a car is questionable, it is being fitted into an increasing number of cars.

There are many factors when it comes to customizing the face of your car. First is the overall geometry of the grill, i.e if it should be huge or small, where should it come, close to the headlight or below it, et al. The second part is what comes inside this setup. Should it be fitted with a mesh sort of setup or the usual straight fins. Ofcourse we’re not discussing the functionality of the product as customization of grills are done only with the aesthetics in mind. The picture above shows a grill that extends almost to the number plate. The boundary of the grill resembles the contour of the headlights. This is a wire mesh grill and the large area could have been used better with, say, a bumper quote.

Although the shape and the size of the grill looks the same, the wire mesh is done away with, and what a difference it has made. The material is probably reinforced plastic or carbon fibre which has a certain chemistry with the metal. The finish is very good resulting in a certain elusive quality that disappears when a concept car in a motor show changes into a production car on the road. In both the cases the main features of the car, the headlights and curves on the front are accenuated.
