The German car company, known for its luxury, BMW has launched a new sports car Z4 Roadster. The car, costing Rs59lakhs, has two seats, a 2,979cc powered petrol engine. BMW believes that the car would fulfil the expectations of pure driving, high standard of elegance and value. The car will be suitable for routine drive and comfort. Facing a tough competition against Mercedes-Benz in the Indian market, for the top slot,(the sale for the first 8 months in this 2009 was that BMW sold 2305 units while Mercedes could fetch 2026 units) BMW has targeted 30-40 units of Roadster for the initial year.
In all BMW has set a target of 3000 units for this year, of which 75% of luxury sedan will be from the Indian market- the 3 series, the 5 series. BMW is doing well with its 6 series, 7 series, X3, X5, X6 in SUV and M3, M5 and M6 in the convertible sports coupe segment. All these are completely built units in India. To ease the marketing of its vehicles, BMW has come out with a financial support scheme with an investment of a USD 50 million, according to the company’s President Kronschnabi.
