Another Jaadoo!
Following the Splendor’s and the Pulsar’s family, the jaadoo family gets a new member. It’s new Discover 135cc. Unlike the 100cc segment, the 135cc segment has intermittent stops. Hero Honda’s Ambition and Yamaha’s RXZ were offered in this 135cc segment but stopped later. Bajaj has now launched a variant of Discover in this segment. Bajaj wishes to add more bikes in the executive bike segment where it’s the leader. Bajaj has introduced the new Discover in the 135cc segment to fill the gap between the Discover 125cc and Pulsar 150cc.
Engine and Powertrain:
The new 135cc heart pumps out 13.1PS at 8500rpm and a maximum torque of 11.88Nm at 6500rpm. These are better figures than the discontinued 135cc Hero Honda’s Ambition. Similar to Bajaj’s other offerings, Discover 135cc engine features proven TRICS, DTSi and ExhausTEC technologies which make them special. Transmission continues to be through the same four-speed gearbox. The engine delivers 57kpl in our city and highway combined test drive. Discover 135cc clocks a top speed of little over 100kmph.
Styling and Engineering:
The new Discover 135cc looks almost styled/engineered like its 125cc or 112cc sibling except for the following changes.
- Contemporary black theme from NitroX chamber to coil springs to exhaust finisher to heat shield to rear view mirrors to handle bar end weight.
- Slim chain cover i.e. open type. I suspect this will harass owners in long time also being 135cc – the Discover does not qualify for hard core bikers at the same time whether the commuter will like it.
- Wider rear tyre 100/90 instead of 100/90X17 rear tyre instead of 125cc discover’s 3.00X17. But rear tyre hugger is missing.
- NitroX shock absorbers borrowed from Pulsar
- Instrument panel gets an rpm meter and now fuel indicator is centered between two large circles. Ride control switch is offered in new Discover 135cc too
- Maintenance free 12V battery
Ride and handling:
Finally the Discover gets a 240mm Disc brake at the front as standard. The new Discover 135cc weighs 4kg more than its 125cc sibling to bear the extra weight Discover 135cc gets a new suspension. The new NitroX suspension at the rear is borrowed from the Pulsar for the new Jaadoo. The telescopic front suspension with a travel of 130mm is also best in the class. With this new suspension, the new Discover 135cc gives a much smoother ride. Seats and Handle bar position ensures comfortable ride for Discover’s rider. Double-cradle type chassis as in the 125cc Discover offers greater flexibility and the result both the straightline stability and cornering is as good as its sibling.
Price and Colours:
Red stripes and Blue Stripes perfectly matches the black themed discover 135cc. The new Discover 135cc hits the road for a price of Rs 56,485. Jaadoo – the Discover as usual seems good value for the money, but it’s already May 15th, Bajaj! Where is the much hyped Pulsar 220cc?
